1. Capt. Nicholas Clinch Marker

Inscription. When called upon by a Union officer to surrender during Sherman`s assault, December 13, 1864, Clinch responded with a blow of his sword. After three sabre, six bayonet, and two gunshot wounds, he was taken.

Erected 1963 by Georgia Historical Commission.

Location. 31° 53.489′ N, 81° 11.77′ W. Marker is in Richmond Hill, Georgia, in Bryan County. Marker can be reached from Fort McAllister Road. Click for map. Located at Fort McAllister State Park. Marker is in this post office area: Richmond Hill GA 31324, United States of America.

Regarding Capt. Nicholas Clinch. Captain Clinch's Artillery Company, comprised primarily of former 4th Georgia men, were all captured or killed there, [Fort McAllister], and Captain N.B. Clinch was severely wounded, along with a goodly portion of his men.
Younger brother of C.S.A. Colonel Duncan L. Clinch, Jr., of Camden County, - “Clinch’s 4th Georgia Cavalry”.
