Looking downhill at the monument location. During the fighting on July 3, a section of the battery was placed in McAllister's Woods, on the other side of the Baltimore Pike. The other section was placed on the northern side of Powers Hill, not far from the monument location. Woods now obscure the field of fire the battery had at the time of the battle, which enabled fires into the area of Spangler's Springs.
