1. Lee's Retreat Marker
 
Inscription. General Lee ordered all columns of his army from the Richmond and Petersburg trenches to rendezvous at this village on the Richmond & Danville Railroad. Here he hoped to obtain rations before continuing the march to North Carolina to join General Joseph Johnston's army.

When the rations ordered by Gen. Lee failed to materialize at Amelia Court House, his army was forced to halt and forage in the surrounding countryside.
