1. Randolph-Macon Medical School Marker

Inscription. Just to the west was the medical school of John Peter Mettauer, which became a branch of Randolph-Macon College in 1847. It was discontinued, probably in 1861. Dr. Mettauer, one of the leading surgeons of the day, practiced until his death in 1875.

Erected 1947 by Virginia Conservation Commissiion. (Marker Number F 69.)

Location. 37° 14.272′ N, 78° 26.643′ W. Marker is near Farmville, Virginia, in Prince Edward County. Marker is on U.S. 15, on the right when traveling south. Click for map. Marker is on right hand side of road when traveling south on U.S. Hwy 15 from Farmville and is between the communities of Kingsville and Worsham. The nearest intersections are Rt 758 north of the marker and Rt 665 south of the marker. Marker is in this post office area: Farmville VA 23901, United States of America.

Regarding Randolph-Macon Medical School. Some documents indicate that Dr. Henry Manore Price attended this school. He obtained a land grant in Venezuela following the Civil War.
