Swett's Mississippi Battery,
Shaver's (1st) Brig., Hardee's Corps,
Army of the Mississippi.
This Battery, forming in rear of right of its brigade, was engaged here from 9.30 a.m. to 12 m. April 6, 1862.
It was again engaged in Ruggles' line of batteries near this place, from 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
Erected by Shiloh National Military Park Commission. (Marker Number 420.)
Location. 35° 8.059′ N, 88° 20.587′ W. Marker is near Shiloh, Tennessee, in Hardin County. Marker can be reached from Corinth-Pittsburg Landing Road, on the left when traveling east. Click for map. Located just east of the Ruggles Batteries walking trail, between the Review Field and Duncan Field, in Shiloh National Military Park. Marker is in this post office area: Shiloh TN 38376, United States of America.

| | | 4. James Rifle | | While the battery was likely not equipped with such weapons at the battle, this bronze rifled gun was one of the most advanced weapons on the field in April 1862. This particular piece conforms to the 1861 style Ordnance profile and has ten lands and grooves. The registry number 39 is faintly visible on the muzzle, indicating this to be what historians call a "Type 2, Series 4" James Rifle. The gun was inspected by George T. Balch in 1862. At time of inspection the gun weighted 913 pounds. | | |
