1. Looking North East - - The Buffalo Trace Marker
Difficult to photograph due to deep ditch with water in it.
 
Inscription. Crossed White River at a nearby ford. It was made by migrating buffalo herds. The trace ran from Vincennes to Louisville and was the only through trail in pioneer days.
 
Erected 1966 by Indiana Sesquicentennial Commission. (Marker Number 63.1966.1.)
 
Marker series. This marker is included in the Indiana State Historical Bureau Markers marker series.
 
Location. 38° 30.544′ N, 87° 17.27′ W. Marker is near Petersburg, Indiana, in Pike County. Marker is on Indiana Route 61 north of Riverwood Drive, on the right when traveling north.
