Colonized, 1585-87, by first English settlers in America; permanently settled c. 1650; first to vote readiness for independence, Apr. 12, 1776.
Georgia
The colony of Georgia was chartered in 1732, named for King George II of England, and settled in 1733. It was one of the 13 original states. Erected 1985 by Division of Archives and History. (Marker Number Q 29.) Location. 34° 59.25′ N, 84° 4.406′ W. Marker is near Bellview, North Carolina, in Cherokee County. Marker is on U.S. 19 3.8 miles south of U.S. 64, on the left when traveling south. Click for map. just North of the Georgia/North Carolina state line.
