1. Samuel Morey Marker
 
Inscription. Samuel Morey, resident of Orford and later Fairlee, successfully operated a steamboat on the Conn. River in 1793. Making over 4000 experiments, this early scientist patented an internal combustion engine in 1826 to anticipate the age of the motor car and airplane.
 
Erected by Vermont Historic Sites Commission.
 
Location. 43° 54.4′ N, 72° 8.66′ W. Marker is in Fairlee, Vermont, in Orange County. Marker is on Main Street (U.S. 5) 0.1 miles north of School Street, on the right when traveling north. Click for map. Marker is in this post office area: Fairlee VT 05045, United States of America.
