Inscription. Here was the birthplace of Alexander Samuel Salley, who devoted fifty years to the collection, preservation, and publication of the historical records of the state as Secretary of the South Carolina Historical Society, Secretary of the South Carolina Historical Commission, and State Historian.
 
Erected 1970 by Orangeburg County Historical Society. (Marker Number 38-14.)
 
Location. 33° 30.564′ N, 80° 49.813′ W. Marker is in Orangeburg, South Carolina, in Orangeburg County. Marker is on Belleville Road (State Road 38-29), on the right when traveling west.
