| | | 1. Mountain Evangelist Marker | | | Inscription. The Reverend Robert Sayers Sheffey (1820-1902), although one of a kind as to style and personality, was a Methodist Circuit Rider in the classic frontier tradition. Celebrated for the intensity of his faith and prayer, as well as for his eccentricities, Sheffey's authority was recognized throughout this region. He is buried nearby, in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, beside his second wife, Elizabeth Stafford Sheffey. Erected 1976 by Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission. (Marker Number KG 15.) Location. 37° 14.482′ N, 80° 42.454′ W. Marker is near Staffordsville, Virginia, in Giles County. Marker is at the intersection of Eggleston Road (Virginia Route 730) and Redbud Lane, on the right when traveling east on Eggleston Road. Click for map.
