Regarding Nuestra Senora la Reina de Los Angeles. La Iglesia de Nuestra Senora la Reina de Los Angeles--the Church of Our Lady the Queen of Angels--was dedicated on December 8, 1822 during California's Mexican era. Originally known as La Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Los Angeles, the church was the only Catholic church for the pueblo. Today it primarily serves the hispanic population of Los Angeles. Timothy Cardinal Manning Marker (bottom right) | The annunciation mosaic on the church facade is a reproduction of a detail from the image of Our Lady of the Angels in the portiuncula chapel at Assisi. This image provided the inspiration from which the city was named to honor Nuestra Senora de Los Angeles. The mosiac was erected in 1981 to commemorate the bicentennial of the founding of the city.
