Inscription. The City of Terre Haute has a rich history, spurred by transportation advancements Terre Haute became the “Crossroads of America“. This plaza commemorates the achievements of the first steamboat on the Wabash in 1823, the National Road reaching Terre Haute in 1838, and the first railroad completed in 1852.
