were massacred about 100 yards east of here by a band of Indians attached to Burgoyne's army July 25,1777. The Cairn marks their burial place. Erected 1927 by Willard's Mountain Chapter D.A.R. After one of their war party had been killed during a fight in nearby Salem New York, the Indians massacred the Allen family in revenge.
