2. History of the 7th Pennsylvania Reserves. Initially, the regiment was not called into Federal service, as all the slots were filled for the state. Designated a reserve unit, but after the First Manassas, it was activated into Federal service. To avoid confusion with other regiments, it was re-designated the 36th Pennsylvania Infantry.
