| | | 1. Tabernacle Marker | | | Inscription. Brigham Young's purpose in building this tabernacle was to provide an ornament to the city. Its 3-foot thick basement walls of hand-cut limestone bear individual stone cutter marks. Roof trusses were hand-hewn and the twin spiral staircases with balustrades were also hand-carved. The ceiling and cornice work were locally cast, but the 4-faced clock was made in London. Started in 1863, the building was completed in 1871. Erected by St. George Historic Preservation Commission. Location. 37° 6.466′ N, 113° 35.009′ W. Marker is in Saint George, Utah, in Washington County. Marker is at the intersection of South Main Street and Tabernacle Street, on the right when traveling south on South Main Street. Click for map. Marker is on the southwest corner.
