It was forged at the Sterling Iron Works in Orange County. It was first stretched across the river under the direction of Thomas Machin, Captain of Artillery, in April, 1778. Location. 41° 23.788′ N, 73° 57.19′ W. Marker is in West Point, New York, in Orange County. Marker can be reached from Pitcher Road. Click for map. Marker is located near the bank of the Hudson River, on a trail that can be accessed from the eastern end of Pitcher Road.
