1. Salem Methodist Church Marker
 
Inscription. 1.8 miles east of here stood Salem Methodist Church (1836-1918), scene of the initial violence resulting from the schism between northern and southern Methodists in 1846. A northern circuit preacher was dragged from the pulpit by members of the congregation. The building burned in 1870 and was replaced. Salem was the mother church of congregations on Cheriton and Oyster and five Eastern Shore Methodist ministers.
 
Erected 1983 by Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission. (Marker Number WY 3.)
 
Location. 37° 18.593′ N, 75° 57.699′ W. Marker is in Cheriton, Virginia, in Northampton County. Marker is at the intersection of US 13 and Cobb Station Road (County Route 636), on the right when traveling north on US 13. Click for map.
