This is a replica of the original built at Ie Shima by the 1118 Engineer Combat Group United States Army.

Erected by Ernie Pyle Memorial Inc., an organization of Ernie's Friends and Neighbors.

This is called a walking covered bridge. When a covered bridge becomes too old, vehicle traffic must be limited from crossing them. This one is limited to pedestrian traffic only.

The "Little Guy's Memorial" - Buglers of 77th Inf Div sounds taps after the unveiling of a monument marking the spot where Ernie Pyle met his death. Monument built by men of the 1118th Combat Engineer Group.
