Inscription.

This wall protected the battery from attack from the rear. It was both a protected position for riflemen and an obstacle. Barbed wire entanglements and natural cliff faces provided additional defence along the remainder of the battery perimeter.

Loopholes allowed riflemen to shoot at an attacking enemy while protected by the wall. Vertical loopholes are located where the outside ground slopes up or down. Horizontal loopholes would allow riflemen to sweep the outside level ground with fire from left to right.

Ce mur protégeait la batterie des attaques par l'arrière. Il servait à la fois d'abri aux fusiliers et d'obstacle à l'ennemi. Les réseaux de barbelés et les falaises assuraient une protection additionnelle le long de l'autre partie du périmètre de la batterie.

Par les meurtriéres, les fusiliers pouvaient tirer sur les assaillants tout en étant protégés par le mur. Les meurtrières verticales sont situées là où le terrain monte ou descend. Quant aux meutrières horizontales, elles permettaient aux fusiliers de balayer la plaine en tirant de gauche à droite.
