Inscription. General Edward Braddock in April 1755, accompanied by Gov. Horatio Sharpe of Maryland, traveled this road in a coach and six horses, on his way to Frederick, Md. to meet Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, to arrange for teams for the Fort Duquesne expedition.
Erected by the Maryland Historic Trust and the Maryland State Highway Administration.

“Teams” meant teams of mules, horses, wagons, and their drivers, to be used to transport supplies for the army on their trek west to fight the French and Indians.
Benjamin Franklin brokered the rental of teams from Pennsylvania and Maryland farmers and guaranteed the payments.
