The Capay-Langville School
1874 - 1980
For nearly a century the Capay School bell summoned children to one of California’s longest existing schools located and functioning on the same site. Uniquely the school’s basement served as a playroom during foul weather. In 1928, it unified with the Cadenasso School—another early day grammar school district. Students learned and progressed through nine grades offered by the pre-Dewey educational system according to individual abilities. It represented the hopes and trials of the pioneers and immigrants in building the west and providing an education for their children. Erected by the alumni and Friends of the Capay School through private donations, work and memorials. Marker series. This marker is included in the Markers with Artwork marker series.
