1. Communicating Trench Marker
Inscription. To your left is a rebuilt trench dug to protect advancing troops from shell fire --- heavy in this open area. The trench followed a zig-zag pattern so as to keep a bank of earth between the men in the trenches and British cannonading.
 
Erected by Colonial National Historical Park, National Park Service.
 
Location. 37° 13.618′ N, 76° 29.828′ W. Marker is in Yorktown, Virginia, in York County. Marker is on Tour Stop D Approach Road, on the right when traveling north. Click for map. Marker is located on the Yorktown Battlefield in Colonial National Historical Park, near stop D on the Battlefield Tour. Marker is in this post office area: Yorktown VA 23690, United States of America.
