| | | 1. Switzer Covered Bridge Marker | | | Inscription. Franklin County's only covered bridge spans North Elkhorn Creek and is 120 ft. long and 11 ft. wide. It was built by George Hockensmith circa 1855. each entrance has a sawtooth edge; the lattice is pinned with trunnels (treenasil). Restored in 1906 by Louis Bower. Closed to traffic in 1954. This bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 1974. Erected 1976 by Kentucky Historical Society & Kentucky Department of Highways. (Marker Number 1571.) Location. 38° 15.138′ N, 84° 45.591′ W. Marker is in Switzer, Kentucky, in Franklin County. Marker is on Jones Lane (Route 1262) (County Route 1262 at milepost 3), 1 mile south of Switzer Road (County Route 1689), on the left when traveling south. Click for map.
