| | | 1. White Springs Marker | | | Inscription. These sulphur springs were thought to have medicinal properties and were considered sacred by the Indians. Warriors wounded in battle reputedly were not attacked when they came here to recuperate. Settlers moved into the vicinity in 1826 and the springs became an ante bellum resort noted for natural beauty and good cuisine. The village was a refuge during the War Between the States and many planters brought their families and slaves here for safety. Erected 1961 by Florida Board of Parks and Historic Memorials. (Marker Number F-24.) Location. 30° 19.786′ N, 82° 45.37′ W. Marker is in White Springs, Florida, in Hamilton County. Marker is on U.S. 41 (Local Route 25) just east of Wesson Street, on the right when traveling east. Click for map. Just north of the watertower.
