Inscription. With the arrival of the families in St. George, school began. A tent, slates and a few books served students in the 1st Central School. Later school was held in different private homes and public buildings until this permanent school was completed in 1901. George Woodward furnished $3000 needed for hardware and glass and paid for the heating plant. To honor him, the school was named Woodward School.
