1. Inner Defences Marker
Inscription. Near here ran the line of inner defences located by Gen. D. H. Hill, June, 1864. He had been sent from Petersburg by Gen. Beauregard to assist Gen. Breckinridge then in command. On Gen. Early’s arrival, troops were moved to the outer work.

Location. 37° 24.772′ N, 79° 9.287′ W. Marker is in Lynchburg, Virginia. Marker is on 5th Street (Virginia Route 163), on the left when traveling north. Click for map.
