1. Charles Krug Winery Marker
Inscription. Founded in 1861 by Charles Krug (1825 – 1892). This is the oldest operating winery in Napa Valley. The pioneer wine maker of this world famous wine region, Krug made the first commercial wine in Napa County in 1858, at Napa.
 
Erected 1957 by California State Park Commission, California Historical Society and the Napa County Historical Society. (Marker Number 563.)
 
Location. 38° 31.037′ N, 122° 29.332′ W. Marker is in St. Helena, California, in Napa County. Marker can be reached from St. Helena Highway (State Highway 29/128) south of Deer Park Road. Description on postcard:
Former carriage house which was converted into an aging room for select vintages. Aging is done in 60 gallon French Oak barrels. Established in 1861 by Charles Krug, the pioneer wine maker of Napa Valley. The historic winery, located in the heart of this world-famous wine growing region, is owned and operated by the Cesare and Rosa Mondavi family. It is surrounded by green lawns and mighty oaks trees. Visitors are always welcome and tours through the winery are held daily at frequent intervals.
