1. Memorial Service for John E. Johns, Furman's Ninth President, Monday in Daniel Chapel. Dr. John Edwin Johns, 85, who served as Furman University’s president from 1976 to 1994 and whose leadership was instrumental in helping the university through its separation from the South Carolina Baptist Convention, died Thursday, September 27, 2007 after a period of declining health.
