1. Markle Mill Site Marker
Inscription. Abraham Markle (1770-1826) had gristmill and dam built here 1817. Mill had an early horizontal water wheel in a splatter box located within the stone foundation of the structure. Wooden part of mill destroyed by fire 1938. Markle was one of founders of Terre Haute Land Company. Also ran nearby general store, sawmill, and distillery.
 
Erected 2001 by Indiana Historical Bureau & Leadership Terre Haute. (Marker Number 84.2001.1.)

Location. 39° 31.67′ N, 87° 20.797′ W. Marker is near Terre Haute, Indiana, in Vigo County. Marker is at the intersection of East Park Avenue and Mill Dam Road, on the right when traveling east on East Park Avenue. Click for map. Small parking area on Mill Dam Road. Picnic table, take a lunch. Small children are not suggested due to degree of danger of falls. Marker is in this post office area: Terre Haute IN 47801, United States of America.
