1. Rutherford Medical Marker
Plaque is to the right of the main entrance stairs.
Inscription. In 1899, construction began for the New York Lying In Hospital designed by Robert H. Richardson and donated by J. Pierpoint Morgan. The hospital opened its doors in 1902 and during its early years, sixty percent of all hospital births in Manhattan took place here.

In 1934, Manhattan General Hospital took over the building and became a pioneer proprietary voluntary hospital providing medical, surgical, and obstetrical care.

. Formerly the New York Lying-In Hospital, this delightful and very distinguished building, which was designed by Robert Henderson Robertson, was erected in 1902 and converted to condominiums in 1986. (Submitted on July 20, 2009.)
