1. Summerville Marker
Inscription. Summertown originated as Summerville in the 1850's as a summer refuge from malaria by well-to-do families of Burke County. They built elaborate summer homes and established historic Summerville Academy, charter March 4, 1856. A post office was granted in 1876 with C. I. Hughes as postmaster. Present Summertown was incorporated in 1906.

Location. 32° 44.589′ N, 82° 16.186′ W. Marker is in Summertown, Georgia, in Emanuel County. Marker is at the intersection of State Highway 56 and Summertown Main Street, on the left when traveling north on State Highway 56. Click for map. Located opposite the beginning Ga 192. Marker is in this post office area: Swainsboro GA 30401, United States of America.
