This is the first Portland
Cement concrete street built
in the United States.
Constructed in 1891
Here started the Better Roads
Movement which has given our
citizens from coast to coast
swift and sure transportation

Erected 1941 by Bellfontaine Junior Chamber of Commerce.

marker being lowered into new site, on Court Street, on the south side of the Courthouse. Nearby are three other markers connected to this subject. Court Street is the last surviving section of the original concrete street.
