1. Cash-Shannon Duel Marker
 
Inscription. This was the site of the last fatal duel fought in S.C., in which Col. E.B.C. Cash of Cash's Depot killed Col. Wm. M. Shannon of Camden on July 5, 1880. This tragedy influenced the S.C. legislature to enact a law in December, 1880, making dueling a crime and requiring public officers, until 1954, to swear they had not been in a duel.
 
Erected 1963 by The Lee County Historical Commission. (Marker Number 31-1.)
 
Location. 34° 15.09′ N, 80° 12.198′ W. Marker is in Shannon Hill, South Carolina, in Lee County. Marker is at the intersection of Hartsville Highway (U.S. 15) and Ashland-Stokes Bridge Road, on the right when traveling west on Hartsville Highway. Click for map.
