1. Elk Hill Marker
Inscription. Two miles south is Elk Hill, once owned by Thomas Jefferson. Lord Cornwallis made his headquarters there, June 7-15, 1781; this was the western limit of his invasion. On June 15 he turned eastward, leaving the place pillaged and carrying off slaves.
 
Erected 1931 by Conservation & Development Commission. (Marker Number SA 5.)
 
Location. 37° 43.861′ N, 78° 4.235′ W. Marker is in Goochland, Virginia, in Goochland County. Marker is at the intersection of River Road West (Virginia Route 6) and Elk Hill Road (Virginia Route 608), on the right when traveling west on River Road West. Click for map.
