Location. 35° 0.862′ N, 85° 20.519′ W. Marker is near Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, in Hamilton County. Marker can be reached from Shingle Road 0.2 miles north of Military Road. Click for map. More about this marker. According to the description information provided by the National Park Service, the monument is, “2'6" x 1'2" x 2'6" high rectangular slab of dark Quincy granite. Rock-faced sides; polished & inscribed front. 'Illinois' is in large raised letters on beveled top. Marks unit's position during the Battle of Lookout Mountain.”
