Inscription. Principal iron producer for Confederate foundry at Selma where naval guns and iron-clads were made.

1865 - Furnaces destroyed by Wilsonís Raiders, U. S. A.
1866 - Furnaces rebuilt and operated by Gen. Gorgas, former Ordnance Chief, C. S. A.
 
Erected 1953 by Alabama Historical Association.
 
Location. 33° 2.573′ N, 86° 57.264′ W. Marker is in Brierfield, Alabama, in Bibb County. Marker is at the intersection of Montevallo Road (State Highway 25) and County Road 62, on the left when traveling west on Montevallo Road. Click for map. Marker located at the entrance to the Brierfield Ironworks Historical State Park. Marker is in this post office area: Brierfield AL 35035, United States of America.
