1. Moorhead's Fort Marker
Inscription. About 1781, Fergus Morehead, pioneer settler, built a fort near the buildings about 200 yards south, to protect his family and neighbors from hostile Indians. It was the first permanent settlement in this vicinity.
 
Erected 1951 by Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
 
Location. 40° 37.393′ N, 79° 10.843′ W. Marker is in Indiana, Pennsylvania, in Indiana County. Marker is at the intersection of Philadelphia Street and Heritage Run Road, on the right when traveling east on Philadelphia Street. Click for map.
