Inscription. President of National Farmers' Alliance, 1889-1892; began Progressive Farmer, 1886; a founder of NCSU and Meredith College. Was born here.

Location. 35° 0.091′ N, 80° 12.85′ W. Marker is in Polkton, North Carolina, in Anson County. Marker is at the intersection of Andrew Jackson Highway (U.S. 74) and Horne-town Road (North Carolina Road 1259), on the right when traveling east on Andrew Jackson Highway. Click for map. 2. Leonidas L. Polk Marker
According to the North Carolina Office of Archives & History — Department of Cultural Resources: "Leonidas L. Polk’s birthplace in Anson County stood until 1972." In 1940, the marker was initially erected on Old US 74 (SR 1419).
