More about this marker. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post 388 raised $20,629 from the community to build the statues. Sculptor Carl Heber of New York created the memorial which was dedicated on May 30, 1923. The sculptures were to be finished in time for Armistice Day, November 11, 1922, but was delayed because of the inability to get materials due to strikes in New York.
