Known as the “Terror of Tellico Plains,” this eminent Knoxville lawyer gained national fame as Chief Counsel at the Army-McCarthy hearings in 1954. He defended more than 600 persons on trial for their lives and never lost a one to the electric chair. Erected by Tennessee Historical Commission. (Marker Number 1F 34.) Location. 35° 22.028′ N, 84° 17.98′ W. Marker is in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, in Monroe County.
