1. San Juan Capistrano Jail Cell Marker
Inscription. This jail cell was built in 1896 to serve as a holding cell for miscreants on their way to County jail. Originally located on the west site of Camino Capistrano at the intersection with Ortega Highway, it was the scene of several jailbreaks and one hanging.
 
Erected 1983 by Orange County Board of Supervisors and Orange County Historical Commission. (Marker Number 31.)
 
Location. 33° 30.091′ N, 117° 39.863′ W. Marker is in San Juan Capistrano, California, in Orange County. Marker is on Los Rios Street, on the right when traveling north. Click for map.
