1. Desert Spring Marker
Inscription. This spring was on the old Indian Horsethief Trail and later (1834) Joe Walker Trail. The famished Manly-Jayhawk Death Valley parties (1849-50) were revived here after coming from Indian Wells through Last Chance Canyon. The was also a station on the Nadeau Borax freight road.
 
Erected 1950 by California Centennials Commission in cooperation with Kern County Historical Society and Kern County Museum. (Marker Number 476.)
 
Location. 35° 18.107′ N, 117° 57.255′ W. Marker is in Cantil, California, in Kern County. Marker can be reached from Pappas Road. Click for map. Marker is located on the southeast corner of Pappas Ranch, on Pappas Road. Walk 1/4 mi west toward trees. It is 0.5 mi South of Valley Road and 3.7 mi east of the Cantil Post Office. Marker is in this post office area: Cantil CA 93519, United States of America.
