1. Murphy Brothers Marker
Inscription. The brothers John Murphy (1824-1892) and Daniel Murphy (1826-1882) reportedly pitched their trading tent near this site late in 1848.
 
Erected 1977 by Matuca Chapter, E.C.V.

2. Murphy Brothers Marker
Murphy brothers were not the first to mine here, but they made by far the largest amount of money. John Murphys set up a trading tent and the area became known as "Murphys Diggings". The area was first known as Stoutenberg, but the name was successively changed to Murphys Rich Diggings, Murphys Flat, then Murphys Camp. (Submitted on January 21, 2012.)
