1. Watrous Marker
Inscription. The Mountain Branch and the Cimarron Cutoff of the Santa Fe Trail meet at Watrous. This important spot on the Trail was first known at La Junta, "junction" in Spanish. In 1879, with the coming of the railroad, it was named for Samuel B. Watrous, a prominent local rancher.
 
Erected by New Mexico Historic Preservation Division.

Location. 35° 46.8′ N, 104° 59.417′ W. Marker is near Watrous, New Mexico, in Mora County. Marker is at the intersection of New Mexico Route 161 and Interstate 25, on the left when traveling east on State Route 161. Click for map. Marker is just east of I-25 at exit 364. Marker is in this post office area: Watrous NM 87753, United States of America.
