This marker erected in 1979
at the request of his grandson,
the late Charles Ellet of Palo Alto, Calif.

Alfred W. Ellet was one of
El Dorado's earliest settlers
and up to the time of his death,
the city's leading and most
industrious citizen. He was a
man of strong moral convictions
and character. He opposed
slavery and had the keenest
sense of justice and right.
He was a lover of his home and
family and a true patriot of his country.

On Nov. 1, 1937 the U.S.S. Ellet,
Destroyer DD-398 was launched
by the U.S. Navy commemorating
six Ellet family members who
distinguished themselves in
service to their country
in the Civil War.
