1. Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Marker
 
Inscription. This building houses the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York for the First Judicial Department, which hears appeals in civil and criminal cases from New York and Bronx Counties. Designs for the courthouse by James Brown Lord were accepted in June 1896, and the structure was occupied four years later. A feature of the building is its allegorical murals and sculptures. In 1854-55 the exterior was resurfaced and in 1956 the interior was remodeled.
