Inscription. Attributed to Greenfield resident Asher Benjamin who here, in 1797 published first American architectural book, adapting English Georgian architecture to American styles and craftsmen. Became Greenfield Public Library in 1909.
 
Erected by Greenfield Kiwanis Club.
