| | | 1. Donner Camp Site Marker | | | Inscription. On October 28, 1846 the six covered wagons brought west by George and Jacob Donner and their families halted here for repairs. By March of 1847 one half of the party of 22 adults and children had died of starvation and cold. They came west seeking a new life and found misery and death. Erected 1960 by Wm. M. Stewart Chapter - ECV, Nevada Co. Historical Society, Tahoe National Forest – USFS, Truckee-Donner Chamber of Commerce, N.D.G.W. Imogene Chapter 134, Sierraville. Marker series. This marker is included in the E Clampus Vitus, and the Native Sons/Daughters of the Golden West marker series. Location. 39° 22.607′ N, 120° 10.736′ W. Marker is near Truckee, California, in Nevada County. Marker can be reached from State Highway 89 3.5 miles north of Interstate 80, on the right when traveling north. Click for map.
