1. First Bridge Marker
Inscription. The first bridge across the St. Joseph River was built at this place in 1837 at a cost of $2499 and was paid for by popular subscription. The bridge replaced a ferry which had operated here from 1834. First bridge replaced by the red, covered bridge in 1846, an iron truss bridge in 1874, and the present concrete bridge in 1907.

Location. Marker has been confirmed missing. It was likely located near 41° 39.845′ N, 86° 10.871′ W. Marker was in Mishawaka, Indiana, in St. Joseph County. Marker could be reached from N. Main St 0.1 miles north of Front St. Click for map. Based on a photograph on the Indiana Historical Bureau website, the approximate location of the missing marker is the southeast corner of the bridge. Marker was in this post office area: Mishawaka IN 46544, United States of America.
