1. The Boat Yard Marker
Inscription. To the south, along the banks of the Holston River, a famous gateway to the West, the Boat Yard had a major role in the history of the South. It was the head of navigation on the Holston from 1768 to 1850, and important commercial port and the point of departure for travelers and emigrants.
 
Erected by Tennessee Historical Commision. (Marker Number 1A 4.)
 
Location. 36° 33.05′ N, 82° 35.683′ W. Marker is in Kingsport, Tennessee, in Sullivan County. Marker is on Netherland Inn Road west of Ridgefields Road, on the left when traveling west. Click for map. The marker is located in the Centennial Boat Yard Park. Marker is in this post office area: Kingsport TN 37660, United States of America.
